Have you ever heard the expression about emotional baggage? It applies for horses too. Horses live long lives and come across many situations, many people and many traumas too. Often stressful situations come and go fast and the release is imminent or almost imminent. This is the ideal setting, where life in general is good, but occasionally stressful occasion happen.
To give you a better idea about what I am talking about, you can think about yourself having a bad day. At the end of it, you come home, lift your feet up, have a nice glass of wine and relax with some nice music or your favourite tv series. Tomorrow is a new day and you will probably feel better, having had the chance to unwind and release those stresses that the tough day laid upon you.
Sometimes a tough day can turn into a tough couple of days, that can turn into a tough week and you notice yourself becoming more stressed. You become irritable and tired, you are not enjoying yourself and those around you are noticing it. “Work has been hard recently, I´ll be ok after the holiday again. Just need to let my hair down and find some time for myself.”
Now imagine if work was hard everyday. Everyday you went to bed exhausted and woke up even more exhausted. And just when you think you cant possibly handle any more, more stress comes your way. Car breaks down or a family member falls ill. Stress builds up and you just continue coping with it. Until one day, there comes a point when it has to come out….
This is something that horses go through as well. They carry their stresses with them, deep within their souls until they are released. The horse may seem perfectly happy and healthy on the outside, but deep down in their souls they carry all those tough days, weeks and months. They can carry this emotional baggage with them for years. Like in humans, some traumas are bedded so deep down, that they are not easily accessible and very hard to release.

Daniel giving Jenny a reassuring hug, you can see how she is really resting herself in his arms. Very precious moment and very important for her, she feels safe when she is held like this.
Recently, I have been very blessed to be able to support some of my horses through this emotional discharge. I got some video material of Jennifer Lopez and her healing moment. It was immensely powerful and I felt many of her emotions as she processed them. There was nothing for me to do, only to be with her, support and make her feel physically safe as she was transitioning through her memories. It may appear as she is sleeping, but the state she is in is much deeper than sleep. This whole process went on for a couple of hours, during which she appeared sleepy, distant and unusual in herself. At first I thought that she may be suffering from a colic but after examining her thoroughly I was confident that she wasn’t in any physical pain but what was happening was indeed something greater.
She responded strongly to my presence and wanted to lay down very close to me, so together we sat for almost an hour as she went through her healing process. After she had released what she was ready to release, she got up, yawned a lot, had a very big drink of water and very peacefully went on to eat her hay with the rest of the horses. Today she is happy, her eyes are softer and she is generally more relaxed with the other horses and us humans too. It is as if a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.
The videos of this experience are on our facebook page, have a look through here.
I spoke with a great animal soul healer about this experience and she confirms that animals indeed carry emotional baggage and that it is very important to offer them a safe space to heal. This type of healing can’t be achieved by medicating the horse, it is something that comes from within and has everything to do with energies within the soul. There are many things you can do to help your horse heal, I recommend you get in touch with Heli at Nordic Animal Therapy ( https://www.nordicanimaltherapy.com or FB https://www.facebook.com/nordicanimaltherapy/) to learn more about the soul healing of horses and to book your horse a healing therapy. She has an incredible gift and talent to listen, heal and help animals. She has been able to support cases where veterinarians have not been able to conclude the problems the horses are experiencing and has offered great relief to many traumatised horses, just by listening. She can channel messages from your animals to you, often during the treatment the horses will share the memories they are processing.
