Last week we welcomed a new mare to the team. Jennifer Lopez, as we named her, comes from a fairly bad place in life. She is a really beautiful 5 year old chestnut mare and we believe she is an arab cross, the way she moves is spectacular!

Jlo just off the trailer.
Her owners needed to find a new home for her as they had become unable to look after her. They had had her since she was just a 4 month old foal and she was kept in very small space with only some sheep and chickens for company. She had not touched or seen another horse since she was taken from her mum too young. Country Quest didn’t really need another horse, but this horse needed us so she came home with us.
She is healthy and in good condition, although she lacks muscle due to the small space she was living in. Her social skills are also fairly atrocious, both with horses and humans.
We have started introducing her to the rest of the horses patiently and slowly and so far she has made great friends with Zara. The rest of the mares she has met still find her too rude to talk to.. She will learn social skills as time goes on, the herd will teach her how to be a horse and she will blend in in the next few weeks.
Her behavior with humans also leaves a little to hope for, she is somewhat aggressive and threatening. It is mainly due to her being scared, it seems her response to fear is aggression. This is something we will continuously address with her and as she becomes more confident this should wean out with correct handling.

Welcome home, sweetheart.
