Happy September!

It’s a beautiful month really. The hot heat of July and August are gone, we are feeling a little refreshing chill in the air in the mornings and the heat doesn’t set in until the afternoon. Even then it is a nice, gentle heat – perfect for those longer rides out, extended lunches and hours sitting on the porch watching the horses much away on their hay.

The flies are starting to disappear and the horses are generally happier as it is not so scorching hot for them either. We are looking forward to the first rains of the season – the dust really needs to go and the earth is absolutely desperate for some water.

The gifts of mother nature are wonderful at this time of the year – the fig trees are heavy with figs, wild grapevines full of the sweetest grapes, almonds are starting to be ready, melon is plentiful… It really is amazing to be able to eat the local produce and pick much of it yourself.

Horses are enjoying the carob, in their field there are a few trees and the horses have very carefully picked out the fallen carobs. It is their favorite thing of the season, with figs as close second.

We are looking forward to the the rains and the cooler weather of the autumn.
